Kerastraight is a semi-permanent keratin smoothing treatment that reduces frizz, softens curls and makes hair easier to manage, without the harsh chemicals of traditional relaxers. Suitable for most hair types—including coloured, bleached and afro hair—it delivers smoother, shinier results that last up to four months. Our stylists in Handcross tailor the treatment to your hair's needs, so you leave with healthy, polished hair that takes half the time to style at home.

More information

What to expect during your appointment

Your Kerastraight appointment takes around 2½ hours and involves:

  • Deep cleanse shampoo to prepare the hair
  • Sectioned application of the keratin formula
  • Processing time under a cap, then a light rinse
  • Moisture-lock step to seal in the treatment
  • Full blow-dry and thorough straightening with irons in small sections—heat locks the keratin into the hair for lasting smoothness

Results are visible immediately: less frizz, more shine, and noticeably easier styling.

Who Kerastraight suits

This treatment works well if you:

  • Want to cut blow-dry time in half and reduce daily heat styling
  • Have frizzy, wavy or curly hair you'd like to soften and smooth
  • Struggle with humidity or want low-maintenance, polished hair between salon visits
  • Have coloured, highlighted or chemically treated hair—Kerastraight is formaldehyde-free and designed to be gentle
  • Prefer a natural, moveable finish rather than poker-straight hair

Very curly or coily hair will become looser, smoother and less frizzy, though the result is typically soft waves rather than completely straight lengths unless you continue to blow-dry and iron regularly.

Aftercare and how long it lasts

Kerastraight is not permanent—your natural texture gradually returns over 3–4 months as the treatment wears off and new hair grows. To get the most from your service:

  • Use sulphate-free, sodium chloride-free shampoos and conditioners—clarifying or harsh formulas will strip the treatment faster
  • You can shampoo relatively soon after your appointment (often from 30 minutes onwards), unlike older keratin systems
  • Heat styling is still possible, but you'll need less of it; many clients air-dry with minimal frizz
  • Plan for a top-up every few months if you want to maintain the smoothness long term

Our team will recommend the best home-care products and talk you through realistic maintenance during your consultation.

Pricing and booking

Kerastraight is priced at £250–£300 depending on hair length and thickness, reflecting the time, skill and premium product involved. During your consultation we'll assess your hair history—any previous colouring, bleaching, relaxers or perms—and choose the most appropriate formula and technique. If you're pregnant, nursing or have a sensitive scalp, let us know so we can discuss suitability. Book by calling 01293 885882 or emailing consultations@aaron-russell.net.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does Kerastraight last?
Kerastraight typically lasts 3–4 months, though this can vary from 2–6 months depending on your hair type, how often you shampoo, and your aftercare routine. Your natural curl or wave gradually returns as the treatment wears off and new hair grows.
Is Kerastraight suitable for coloured or bleached hair?
Yes. Kerastraight is formulated to be safe for coloured, highlighted, bleached and chemically treated hair. During your consultation we'll assess your hair's condition and history to ensure the treatment is right for you.
Does Kerastraight contain formaldehyde?
No. Kerastraight is formaldehyde-free and marketed as a safer alternative to traditional Brazilian blow-dries. It uses an advanced keratin-based protein formula approved for UK and EU Health & Safety standards.
How long does the appointment take?
A Kerastraight appointment takes around 2½ hours (150 minutes), though it can be longer if your hair is very long or thick. The process includes deep cleansing, treatment application, processing time, blow-drying and thorough straightening with irons.
Can I wash my hair straight after Kerastraight?
Yes, in most cases you can shampoo from 30 minutes after your appointment. This is a key difference from older keratin systems that required you to keep hair dry for several days. Your stylist will confirm the best timing for your treatment.
What aftercare products do I need?
Use sulphate-free and sodium chloride-free shampoos and conditioners to prolong your results—clarifying or harsh formulas will strip the treatment faster. We'll recommend the best products for your hair type during your consultation.
Will Kerastraight make my hair completely straight?
Kerastraight smooths, softens and reduces frizz, giving natural movement rather than poker-straight hair. Very curly or coily hair will become looser and more manageable, but may still have soft waves unless you continue to blow-dry and straighten regularly.
How much does Kerastraight cost at Aaron Russell?
Kerastraight is priced between £250 and £300 depending on your hair's length and thickness. This reflects the premium product, time and skill involved in the treatment.
Can I have Kerastraight if I'm pregnant or nursing?
Although Kerastraight is formaldehyde-free, we recommend discussing your circumstances with your stylist during consultation. Pregnant and nursing clients, or those with sensitive scalps, should confirm suitability and ventilation arrangements before booking.
Will I still need to use heat styling tools after Kerastraight?
You'll need far less heat and time—many clients air-dry with minimal frizz. Heat styling is still possible, but you'll find blow-drying and straightening much quicker. Over-use of high heat can still cause damage over time, so use lower settings where you can.
