The blend stays seamless when you protect the tone at home and book short top-up appointments at the right moments. Here is the balayage maintenance routine we recommend to our clients in Handcross, including exactly when to come back and what to do between visits.

Home care that protects the tone
Use a sulphate-free shampoo and a moisturising conditioner, and finish your wash with a cool rinse to flatten the cuticle and boost shine. If your balayage leans blonde, use a purple or blue shampoo once a week to control brass. More than that and the colour can look dull rather than bright.
Heat is the biggest cause of fade, so apply a heat protectant every single time you blow-dry or use irons, and work on a lower setting in sections so you need fewer passes. In summer, a hat or UV mist protects against yellowing, and after swimming, rinse immediately and apply a light conditioner.

What happens at a top-up appointment

When to book a full refresh
You will know it is time when the mid lengths look flat, the brightness has dropped, or you want more light around your face. That is usually the 12 to 16 week mark. Bring your inspiration photos and we will adjust the placement, not just repeat it, so your colour evolves with your cut and the season.

Can I use purple shampoo on balayage?
Yes, if your balayage is blonde. Once a week is plenty. Overusing it deposits too much violet pigment and makes hair look dull or grey rather than bright.
